Since Juvederm Voluma is such a new product, I often get asked questions about it. Here are some of the more common questions, and my answers, to help you better understand it.
What is Juvederm Voluma? JUVÀ°DERM VOLUMA„¢ XC injectable gel is the first and only hyaluronic acid (HA) filler FDA-approved for deep injection in the cheek area to correct age-related volume loss.
What can Voluma do for me? It gives you an instant, subtle lift, helping to restore contour and a more youthful profile. It gives an instant, visible improvement to flat and sunken cheeks as the smooth gel gently lifts the cheeks and gives your facial contours an overall rounder and fuller appearance.
What exactly is hyaluronic acid and can I be allergic to it? Hyaluronic acid (HA) binds with water to add volume and hydration to your skin. They slowly break down and are absorbed by the body naturally. Because HA is a natural substance found in our bodies, no allergy pre-testing is required
How long does Voluma last? It lasts up to 2 years. Will the treatment hurt? Voluma contains lidocaine, a local anesthetic that increases your comfort during treatments. At OC Dermatology, we also use PainEase, a spray that numbs your skin prior to your injections so you don’t feel the injection. You can view a video of my use of PainEase here.
What are the common side effects of Voluma? Mild side effects are common nd generally last less than 1-2 weeks. Common side effects include temporary reactions at the treatment site such as tenderness, swelling, firmness, lumps/bumps, bruising and redness.
Why should I go to an experienced expert in fillers, like Dr. Klein? Isn’t the product the same at med spas and other doctors’ offices? All filler products, including Voluma, can only create a natural, youthful appearance when injected by a trained professional with an artistic eye. Who is injecting it is more important than what is being injected.
