Background: A rare variant of sponge, Spongilla lacustris, was discovered in the Volga River in central Russia over seventeen years ago. This variant is unique in that it produces compounds that promote rapid regeneration in response to trauma and extreme environmental stress, as well as anti-viral and anti-bacterial compounds. This production of very potent and bioactive compounds is the result of millions of years of evolution and it is what gives this compound, VSMTM - Spongilla Matrix, its special healing and regenerative qualities. Overview of treatment: The Villani Treatment is applied to your skin like a masque by our trained staff, and then removed. It resurfaces the skin and provides a natural, safe and very effective alternative to microdermabrasion, chemical peels, photo-facials (IPL), laser and prescription acne therapy to improve brown spots, fine wrinkles, sun damage, superficial scars, acne, comedones and enlarged pores and provides overall facial rejuvenation.
Sun Damage, Anti-aging and Rejuvenation: VSMTM is a potent anti-aging skin rejuvenator that stimulates skin cell renewal, collagen and elastin production and improves the texture of the skin surface. It removes old and dead cells from the skin's outer layer without harming the younger, living cells, resulting in softer, smoother skin. Penetrating spicules additionally aid in the delivery of bio-active and anti-oxidant compounds deep into the dermis, which produce future anti-aging effects.
Acne: VSMTM improves acne by reducing oil production, accelerating sloughing of the external skin layer, reducing blocked pores, decreasing bacterial counts and reducing inflammation, all without the typical irritation and delayed results associated with benzoyl peroxide and retinoids. We have found it can be as effective as Accutane, without the drug side effects!

Preparation before your treatment: Stop using Retin-A, Tazorac and high-potency (over 10%) glycolic acid products for 2 weeks prior to your first treatment. You may continue with retinols and lower potency glycolic acid products prior to your treatment. Make sure your face is clean of makeup and creams when you arrive.
After treatment: Immediately after a healthy-appearing glow is seen due to enhanced blood circulation in the treated skin. Spicules that have penetrated the epidermis communicate their presence and effectiveness via a unique tingling sensation to the touch.After several days the tingling sensation gradually abates as the spicules begin to shed with the exfoliating epidermis. On the 5th day these cells are ready to shed, and exfoliation is facilitated with an exfoliant or Clarisonic system.
Maintenance: The Villani Treatment promotes cell turnover and therefore is considered an important part of a healthy lifestyle. Continue weekly or bi-weekly treatments until your acne is clear or sun damage or pigmentation is improved, then maintain your treatments monthly to keep your skin looking great.
