Fat cells are naturally more vulnerable to the effects of cooling than skin and other surrounding tissues and can be safely eliminated without harming the skin. CoolSculpting’s controlled cooling causes crystallization of the lipids in the fat cells, leading to damage to the cells and gradual, safe elimination by the body’s normal metabolic processes, similar to how fat from food is eliminated, over the course of 2 to 3 months. Each treatment results in an average 25% reduction in the fat layer. This reduction of fat flattens and smoothes the fat bulges.

A cycle refers to one treatment with one applicator to one specific part of the body. Most body areas require two or more treatment cycles (left side and right side, upper back and lower back, for example). The abdomen may require several cycles to accommodate the various contours present in this area.

Before treatment, you will meet with our CoolSculpting Specialist to design a custom treatment plan to achieve your goals with CoolSculpting.  Each treatment results in an average 25% reduction in the fat layer. Most of our patients require 2 treatments to each area. Our large applicator covers a larger area and counts as 2 cycles. An applicator is applied to each area for one hour. It is most common for 2 to 3 hours of treatment to be scheduled at a time but you may schedule more or less. The applicator will deliver precisely controlled cooling to the fat, while protecting the skin. You may choose to have more than 1 treatment to the same area, depending on the degree of fat reduction desired. Each treatment will reduce the fat layer an additional 25%. With DualSculpting we can often perform 2 cycles on 2 sides or areas of your body at the same time, treating you in half the time normally required.

On your treatment day, when we apply the CoolSculpting applicator, you will initially feel slight tugging and cooling.  Your treatment area is numb within a few minutes, allowing for the rest of the treatment to be comfortable. Our patients typically read, relax, or listen to music on their mobile device. 

After treatment, you may experience redness, swelling, mild tenderness, occasional bruising and numbness.  Numbness can persist for a few weeks. You may start to see your results as early as 3 weeks; however, full results can be seen after 3 months.  CoolSculpting has no down time and you can return to normal activity immediately after treatment.

CoolSculpting has no down time! It is safe and completely non-invasive which allows immediate return to work, exercise and other normal activities. Although there may be some minor discomfort during the first 10 minutes as the skin is drawn into the applicator and cooled, no pain medication or anesthetic is needed. The procedure is comfortable enough to read, work on a laptop, listen to music with headphones or take a nap during the procedure. Afterwards patients experience redness which usually lasts minutes to hours. Some patients may experience bruising and/or tenderness, cramping and/or itching for 1 to 2 weeks and a temporary dulling of sensation for 1 or more weeks.

CoolSculpting is FDA-cleared for fat reduction.  We offer other technologies in our office to improve the appearance of cellulite, skin texture and skin laxity (ask us about Cellfina for cellulite). While the results are not as rapid or dramatic as liposuction, CoolSculpting is extremely popular because it is very effective and does not involve the pain, risk and recovery time of liposuction. But like liposuction, it eliminates fat cells permanently from your body, so they are gone for good.

We have small and medium applicators, which treat 1 area at a time. Our large (double) applicator, when appropriate, can treat 2 areas on the abdomen at the same time. The large applicator counts as 2 areas from your package. We also offer DualSculpting, where we can use 2 machines simultaneously to cut your procedure time in half.

If you purchase a package and have unused treatments, they will never expire. They may be used on other areas, credited toward other procedures or be refunded.
