What is QWO and how
does it work?

———

QWO is a prescription medicine approved by the FDA to treat moderate to severe cellulite in the buttocks of adult women. Its active ingredient is Collagenase Clostridium Histolyticum. Collagenase is an enzyme that targets the fibrous septae, which are the structural cause of cellulite.

QWO works in 3 ways: releasing fibrous bands, redistributing fat cells and stimulating the growth of new collagen.

Who is a good candidate?

———

Adult women with moderate to severe “dimpled” cellulite in the buttocks are typically good candidates. The best results occur in thinner, younger (40 and under) patients but improvement can be seen in most patients. We do not guarantee results however as each patient’s results vary.
QWO does not work for laxity. If your dimples disappear when you stretch them then they are probably not true cellulite but are due to skin laxity instead.

FAQs

———

Do I need a consult first?

Yes, since not every person who desires treatment is a good candidate. We recommend a quick complimentary consult prior to scheduling your treatment to ensure you will achieve success with QWO.

What happens during the treatment and how long does it take?

On your first visit photos will be taken. On all visits your dimples will be marked then QWO will be injected directly into these dimples using a tiny needle (similar to a Botox® injection.) Treatments take as little as 10 minutes per visit.

How many treatments will I need and when will I see results?

Patients receive 3 treatments, 3 weeks apart. While individual results vary, visible results typically appear in 10 weeks. Results may be permanent but QWO does not prevent new dimples from forming, and old dimples may reappear with weight gain. Laxity also worsens with age and may look like cellulite returning.

What are the potential side effects and what can I expect after my treatment?

The most common side effects of QWO are temporary and include bruising, pain, nodules, itching, discoloration, swelling and warmth in the treatment of area. You can expect significant bruising, especially after the first treatment, because collagenases temporarily weaken blood vessel walls as they work. Bruising lessens with subsequent treatments. Most side effects resolve within 3 weeks. Rare side effects include allergic (hypersensitivity) reactions, including anaphylaxis. Do not use QWO if you are allergic to any collagenase or have an infection in the treatment area.

How should I prepare for my treatment and is there any aftercare I need to do?

To reduce the amount of bruising we recommend avoiding aspirin, ibuprofen, Vitamin E, fish oil and similar meds for 1 week before your treatment. Arnica Montana, starting up to 4 days prior to your treatment and for the first few days after, will also help reduce bruising. We have a very strong Arnica product available for purchase. Avoid exercise and heavy lifting for 2-3 days after your treatment to reduce bruising. V-Beam laser treatment is available 1-4 days after your treatment to reduce bruising for a reduced fee of $100.
