Why Choose Juvederm®?

Juvederm ® creates a natural, youthful appearance when injected by a trained professional with an artistic eye. Most experts agree that hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers are the products of choice for shaping lips. The gels are created from stabilized HA, which binds with water to add volume and hydration to your skin. They slowly break down and are absorbed by the body naturally. Because HA is a natural substance found in our bodies, no allergy pre-testing is required.

What is Juvederm® Voluma XC?

Dr. Klein is one of the first 50 physicians in the U.S. to offer Voluma, the first and only filler approved by the FDA to restore volume to cheeks sapped by aging. Voluma injections can produce instantly visible improvement to flat and sunken cheeks as the smooth gel gently lifts the cheeks and gives your facial contours an overall rounder and fuller appearance. Voluma includes lidocaine, a local anesthetic that increases your comfort during treatments.

Voluma results can last up to 2 years or longer.

Ultra & Ultra Plus

At OC Dermatology and Euro Day Spa, we use 2 other types of Juvederm ®:

Juvederm ® Ultra: A smooth gel used for wrinkle correction and lip enhancements.

Juvederm ® Ultra Plus: Thicker than Juvederm ® Ultra, it is used for shaping facial contours, correcting deeper folds and providing an extra boost to lips.

Preparing for Your Juvederm® Treatment

Wash your face thoroughly, removing lipstick and face creams.

Don’t take aspirin, ibuprofen (Advil), vitamin E, fish oil, and similar medications for 1 to 2 weeks before your treatment to reduce the risk of bruising and swelling.

Use Arnica montana (an herbal medicine) the morning of your treatment or immediately after to help reduce bruising and swelling (you can buy a physician-strength version at our office).

Tell us before your treatment if you have a history of herpes (cold sores) in this area so we can prescribe a medication that will help prevent an outbreak.

The Juvederm® Treatment

Treatments last between 5 and 20 minutes, and because Juvederm® products contain lidocaine, they are usually painless. Dr. Klein will determine whether you’ll need 1 or more syringes to create the results you want. After 4 to 8 weeks, you may need a touch-up treatment to fine-tune your results and produce longer lasting improvement. Results typically last between 6 and 12 months but can be touched up sooner if you like.

After your treatment

Some common, temporary reactions might occur after your treatment, including:

  • Tenderness
  • Redness
  • Itching
  • Bruising
  • Bumps
  • Pain or swelling

These conditions, if they occur, are usually gone within a few days. After lip injections, they might last 7 to 10 days. We recommend planning your treatments at least 1 week before any special events. Some minor swelling can sometimes persist up to several weeks after your treatment. This type of swelling only enhances your results by filling in the wrinkles and lips a little more than the product does. When the swelling completely disappears you may think the effect is fading, but it’s the swelling that has disappeared. If you preferred how you looked with a little swelling, we can add more filler at a subsequent appointment.

We offer V-Beam laser treatments to improve bruising within 36 hours of your Juvederm® treatment.

You can also schedule a Villani treatment following the Juvederm® injections (either that day or the next day). The Villani treatment reduces bruising and swelling after filler treatments. It can also rejuvenate skin, help lighten pigmentation, and improve acne.

Care After Juvederm®

Applying cold packs to your face and taking Arnica montana for 1 to 2 days will help with bruising and swelling. You should avoid putting pressure on the treated areas for several hours as this could displace the filler. We also recommend using an extra pillow and sleeping on your back the first night for best results.
